Childrens Bedtime Stories,
the Kittens Meet Santa

Tempo Cat
Tempo Christmas Tree

This is one of the childrens bedtime stories that was first published in a local newspaper.

Santa’s Little Helper

Mohrle scratched impatiently on the front door. He wanted to go out. He and his sister, Missi Girl, live in Robinson Bay together with Woodstock a much older cat.

All day long, mysterious things were going on. Everybody rushed. Feeling left out he complained to Woodstock. Woodstock said to wait and explained that it was Christmas again. Mohrle remembered what a wonderful and joyful time it had been last year. Even so, waiting bored him.

The front door opened and Mohrle slipped into the cool winter night. As he walked carefully through the freshly fallen snow to the bottom of the driveway, he looked up. Bright stars shining onto a silent earth welcomed him into their mysterious world. Not a sound could be heard.

Mohrle’s breath formed little clouds as he sat down quietly marveling at the twinkling lights in the sky. Suddenly he noticed a movement. A brightly illuminated object, pulled by antlered animals, moved at an incredible speed across the dark heaven. Closer and closer it came.

Fascinated, Mohrle could not take his eyes off this mysterious object. Then, out of nowhere a magnificent sleigh, loaded high with colourful wrapped parcels, stopped right in front of him. Mohrle could not believe what he saw. What was this? Was this Santa Claus? It had to be him. And it was.

Booooming voice!

In a booming voice Santa Claus asked, “Mohrle, my little friend, would you like to help me deliver these presents to the children in Knowlton?” A dazed Mohrle nodded.

“Hop on,” a smiling Santa said. Now this was exciting. Mohrle jumped quickly into Santa’s sleigh and off, they went. Well, Mohrle had the time of his life, handing parcels to Santa, who slid down so many chimneys to put these under the trees, it made your head spin.

In anticipation of receiving nice gifts, children had left milk and cookies for Santa. However, Santa could not eat all of them and was very happy to share the cookies with Mohrle. This was great fun and Mohrle was disappointed when all the presents were delivered.

Thank you, said Santa

“A great big Thank You for your help,” Santa said with a big smile on his face, patting Mohrle on the back.

“When you wake up tomorrow morning, don’t forget to check under the tree. There is a little surprise for Woodstock, Missi Girl and you. Now, however, I must be off. I have lots more gifts to deliver tonight.”

“Onward, Donner and Blitzen, and a Very Merry Christmas to all of you. Ho, ho, ho.”

Mohrle pinched himself

“Let’s go, fellows,” a jolly Santa said, holding tightly onto the reins. And the sleigh sped off into the night. Mohrle pinched himself. “Am I dreaming?” He felt warm and very happy as he went back into the house. Helping Santa had been so much fun. Curled up on the sofa, before drifting off to sleep, he hoped that everyone would have a Merry Christmas.
