Short Children Stories, about the author - Klaus Bremer

Early LifeThe author and creator of short children stories, Klaus Bremer was born and raised in Germany. After completing his training as an electrician and a wonderful time of work and fun in Sweden and Finland, he came to Canada in 1958 at the tender age of twenty years old, looking for “fame and fortune.” An early admirer of U.S. President John F. Kennedy, this quote by this unforgettable man, “One person can make a difference and every person should at least try.” Impressed by such a simple statement, Klaus made it his motto in life. He became a successful electrical contractor in Montreal. Now semi retired he pursues a lifelong dream of writing stories for children. Writing and story telling to have been a passion since early childhood in Germany. Klaus recalls, telling stories to his younger brother and friends when he was ten years old. Story time was made more exiting by sneaking into the forbidden moor. An exciting background for tall tales. He would also beg his parents to buy him some of the classic short children stories because his fantasies knew no bounds. He loved the "classics" as he would become the prince to wake up Cinderella, was frightened for Little Red Riding Hood, and was delighted in the Adventures of the Seven Dwarfs. Amy (Miss Emma), his first love back home, followed him to Canada. They have been married for 48 years. Turning their vacation cottage on Robinson Bay, located in the Town of Brome Lake, Quebec, into their permanent home, after living 30 years in Montreal. This very picturesque part of the Eastern Townships with Round Top Mountain near Sutton, Foster Mountain across Brome Lake, and Owls Head Mountain towering over Lake Memphremagog, are the backdrop for the Adventures of Barnie, the Owl and his buddy, Woodstock, the cat. Shrine InvolvementA Free Mason and dedicated Shriner, Klaus, solidly backed up by his lady Amy, was responsible to arrange for volunteer drivers to transport patients and their guardians from Montreal’s Pierre Elliot Trudeau International Airport to the Shrine Hospital for 27 years. This dedication to, and his passion writing stories for children, is the beginning of an exciting new carrier. Klaus involvement as secretary of the Club made it easy to write about Barnie. Barnie lives in a splendid treehouse inside a magnificent maple tree next to the Bremer house. As the stories unfold we learn of Woodstock, the cat. The two are buddies and together they keep things safe and under control around and in the woods in Robinson Bay. And so begin the Adventures of Barnie, the Owl. Writing StoriesWriting short childrens stories on a computer is much more fun than working with a typewriter. Many stories have been written and are awaiting publication. The first published story is about Charlie. Charlie is a creature, the likes never seen before by Woodstock, who, with the help of Barnie, solves this mystery.A few of his short children stories have been published in local newspapers and Klaus is hosting a childrens show on radio CIDI 99.1 FM every Saturday at 8.00 AM. Local Artist InvolvedThe illustrator for these short children stories is a wonderful local artist named Marie-Andrée Leblond, whose work is found in galleries and private collections across Canada. Her illustrations have graced magazine covers, tourist promotions and cookbooks. She has won numerous prizes for her art. Her colorful drawings for Charlie are more realistic than cartoonish and coupled with Klaus clear and simple telling of a plausible encounter between three animals, create a story parents will enjoy reading to their children.
